Group Exhibition
Discover the profound impact of rituals on culture, community, and personal understanding in this exhibition. Rooted in spirituality, social connections, politics, and personal significance, rituals transcend daily routines, seamlessly blending into our lives and prompting nuanced discussions about their transformative potential.
Settled/Unsettled
Through the work of Kathrin Longhurst, Mehwish Iqbal, Angus McDonald and Penny Byrne, Settled/Unsettled explores issues of war and cultural displacement through the lens of asylum-seeker, refugee, and migrant experiences. By investigating the themes of conflict and exile, home and belonging, the exhibition contributes to the movement of empowerment and acceptance.
Belly and the Members
Yavuz Gallery is pleased to present The Belly and the Members, a group exhibition of works by Karen Black, Cybele Cox, Sarah Drinan, Mehwish Iqbal, Solomon Kammer, Juz Kitson, Caroline Rothwell and Grace Wright.
A Whisper Echoes Loudest
A Whisper Echoes Loudest reflected on individual and collective experiences of colonialism by those who have always and those that now call Australia home.
Through gentle and resilient artistic practices, the artists involved in the exhibition explored difficult and often violent narratives that are otherwise concealed from public view and concern. In sharing these difficult narratives, the exhibition sought to foster a sense of empathy, understanding and community
Curator: Nikita Holcombe
Artists: Rosell Flatley, Carmen Glynn-Braun, Dennis Golding, Mehwish Iqbal, Shivanjani Lal, Nadia Refaei, Roberta Joy Rich, Sha Sawari.
A Soft Touch
A Soft Touch brings together contemporary artists whose practices engage visually and conceptually with the material ‘softness’ of textiles but whose works clearly embody values of empowerment and resistance.
Soft Power
Soft Power explores the diverse ways Australian artists use textiles to investigate social, cultural and political issues of our time. The exhibition presents the works of six Australian artists who each embrace textiles in order to send a message. These works explore a range of themes including environmentalism, feminism and power.
Laa Makaan
Yavuz Gallery is proud to present Laa Makaan, Mehwish Iqbal’s inaugural solo exhibition with the Gallery.
Continuing Iqbal’s success from The National exhibition 2021, Laa Makaan is comprised of new works incorporating embroidery, printmaking, painting, textiles, and installation. Its title translates from Iqbal’s native language, Urdu/Rekhta, to: ‘into a divine world, without a place or a deity’. Exploring this concept as an external influence, Iqbal constructs and deconstructs narratives of belonging in her latest oeuvre.
